Air New Zealand
Air New Zealand is the national airline of New Zealand. Based in Auckland, the airline operates scheduled passenger flights to 22 domestic and 29 international destinations in 16 countries around the Pacific rim and the United Kingdom.
Air New Zealand’s route focuses on Australia and the South Pacific, with long-haul services to East Asia, the Americas, and the United Kingdom. It was the last airline to circumnavigate the world with flights from Heathrow to Los Angeles and via Hong Kong. Air New Zealand’s main hub is in Auckland Airport, located near Mangere in the southern part of the Auckland urban area. Air New Zealand is headquartered in a building called The Hub located 20km from Auckland Airport, in Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter.
Origins and Ownership
Air New Zealand originated in 1940 as Tasman Empire Airways Limited(Teal), a company operating trans-Tasman flights between New Zealand and Australia, it was renamed to Air new Zealand in 1965 when TEAL became wholly owned by the New Zealand government. The airline serves international routes until 1978, when the government merged it with the domestic New Zealand National Airways Corporation into a single airline under the Air New Zealand name. Air New Zealand was privatised in 1989, but returned to the majority government ownership in 2001 after near bankruptcy, due to the failed tie up with Australian carrier: Ansett Australia.
Christopher Luxon was appointed Group Manager International Airline at Air New Zealand from May 2011 and took over the Chief Executive Officer role on January 1, 2013. Christopher Luxon was the former President and CEO of Unilever Canada, based in Toronto; and was also a key member of Unilever’s North American leadership team. Christopher Luxon graduated with a Master of Commerce in Business Administration from the University of Canterbury.
What people are saying
Considering the helpfulness and attentiveness of Air New Zealand’s staff, and the comfy seats that has enough legroom for each passenger, not to mention the delicious foods, and the cleanliness of the whole airline. It is undoubtedly accurate why passengers from Air New Zealand are leaving these positive reviews towards them.
“Flights there and back were only 3 hours each way. Food was average – more of a snack. As to be expected in economy class seats a bit cramped. However, okay for such a short flight. Flight crew were friendly and did a good job.”
—Jenny M (Chertsey)
“Pleasant atmosphere created by attentive staff, especially Singaporean born Jennifer, was appreciated prior to a long flight. Very comfortable for sleeping on overnight flight, although still find disadvantages in window angle for viewing, and necessity for choice between either seat or bed with present Air NZ cabin system.”
—Deejay606 (Hamilton, New Zealand)
“This is a great airline . The staff are courteous, professional and take an interest in your travel comfort. The food was excellent, the wine selection superb, and the in-flight movies, etc, up-to-date and easily accessible.”
—Peter H (Stevens, PA, United States)

With the positive reviews coming from its customers, the fair and approachable accommodations of their staff, the clean facilities–bathrooms, the good food. All I can say is that, Air New Zealand really gave its passenger the flight of a lifetime. With smooth yet fast flight, and the proper orientation by the staff, it is not surprising why Air New Zealand was ranked by JACDEC, as the safest airline in the world.
