The airline was established on May 5, 2008 by Brazilian-born: David Neeleman, the founder of the American low-cost airline: JetBlue. Azul Brazilian Airlines name was derived from the Portuguese word: Azul which means blue, the airline has a fleet of 76 aircrafts and began their service on December 15, 2008.

Azul Brazilian Airlines or most popularly known as: Azul Linhas Brasileiras S.A. was the fourth airline, launched by JetBlue founder: David Neeleman. David Neeleman is Brazilian-American Entrepreneur, who founded Azul Brazilian Airlines, as well as: Morris Air, WestJet, and JetBlue Airways. Neeleman was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil was was raised in Miami, United States. Along with June Morris, they co-founded the low-fare charter airline: Morris Air in 1984 to 1988. He is also the co-owner of TAP Portugal–the flag carrier airline of Portugal, along with Humberto Pedrosa.

“This was a flight in the morning. The flight was on time. The check in staff at the counter did not speak English and thus took some time to sort things out. Once I got the boarding card, everything was smooth. The flight was on time and the aircraft was 2-2 configuration, smaller than a Boeing 737 but very comfortable. The flight attendants were very prompt and extremely professional. The flight was smooth, especially the landing was impressive.”

“Easy to buy the ticket online, checked in online, arrived at São Paulo airport after a long-haul overnight flight from Lisbon (Portugal). Smooth transfer to the smallest terminal at GRU, security fast and efficient. Friendly cabin crew, great selection of multiple snacks as in JetBlue, on-time departure and arrival, and nice part about arriving at the smaller terminal in POA is that was so easy for my friends to find me upon arrival. Highly recommended!”
