Philippine Airlines is the flag carrier of the Philippines, the airline was founded in 1941 and is the first and oldest commercial airline in Asia operating under its original name. Philippine Airline has its hubs at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, which is located in Manila, and the Mactan-Cebu International Airport in Cebu, Philippines Airlines serves 31 destinations in the Philippines, 41 overseas destinations in: Southeast Asia, East Asia, Middle East, Oceania, North America and Europe.
Origins and Ownership
The birth of the Philippine Airlines began in 1935, when the Philippine Congress approved the franchise of the Philippine Aerial Taxi Company Incorporated or PATCO, to provide mail, cargo, and passenger services particularly in the island of Luzon. The company had then scheduled Manila-Baguio and Manila-Paracle flights. On February 1941, Philippine Air Lines Inc., acquired the franchise of the Philippine Aerial Taxi Company Incorporated, thus—the birth of Philippine Airlines. The airline’s first flight took place on March 15, 1941.
What people are saying
Having different reviews coming from its previous and loyal customers, Philippine Airlines seems to be an average airline, yet known for its good accommodations, hospitality, and professional assistance from their cheerful staffs. Here are some of the reviews:
“Easy check in, helpful staff, the aircraft was clean and comfortable we had a great flight apart from being 10 mins late out of Melbourne (but who cared) we were going on a holiday. I certainly will fly with this airline anytime. The only downside with the aircraft was there was no TV to watch a movie especially for some of the Elderly who don’t have tablets or phone. OK for those who have Mobiles,Tablets, Ipads but don’t forget to download the before boarding the aircraft.”
“I’ve flown with many airlines and although PAL is not the most high tech and luxurious aircraft, they have one of the best pilots in the industry. You would see what I mean during landings. PAL has the smoothest landing of an aircraft everywhere. No bounce. Just smooth touchdowns always.
The service is one of their main advantages. Filipino hospitality is at the forefront. Food is good most of the time. Entertainment is not so good compared with the other big Asian airlines. Fewer movie selections. The seats are ordinary. Customer service could be improved.”

“I was comparing some budget flights from HK to Manila and then, just out of curiosity, checked Philippine Airlines. The prices were more than reasonable, with around $20-$30 over the budget carriers, in that period. So I went for it. Experience was of course better than a low cost. Got a warm meal and a well maintained aircraft. Staff was also friendly but nothing out of the ordinary. Also plane slightly getting older. Overall pleasantly surprised so I can recommend the airline. Be careful, it’s always what you expect and how much you pay for it. Don’t expect Singapore Airlines for the price of Air Asia. You won’t get it. Happy flying.”
