Royal Jordanian Airlines
Royal Jordanian Airlines is the flag carrier airline of Jordan. The airline operates scheduled international services over four continents with over 500 flights per week; and with at least 110 daily departures, from its main base at Queen Alia International Airport which is located at Amman, Jordan. Royal Jordanian is a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization and of the OneWorld global airline alliance. The airline is the second-largest carrier in the Levant and the only major Arab carrier serving Israel. It began to put into place a new strategy at the end of 2002 which saw the airline concentrate on its neighbouring nations, with increased frequencies.
Origins and Ownership
It was a common misconception that the airline was named after the King’s third wife: Queen Alia, whom the King did not marry until 1972. Royal Jordanian was established on the 3rd of December in 1963 and started operations on the 15th of December of the same year (1963) after a royal decree of the late King Hussein. It was named Alia or Aalya after King Hussein’s eldest child: Princess Alia bint Al Hussein of Jordan. The airline was founded with capital from private shareholders, but then the Jordanian Government later took over the company.
What people are saying
With their luxurious accommodations and assistance, Royal Jordanian airlines receives a wide variety of positive comments coming from their satisfied passengers, who were astonished with the airline’s offers and services. Here are some of the reviews I’ve read:
“Flying a less known airline can always be crap shoot. Especially considering how cheap it was to fly from NYC to Amman (it was less than $700). The flight was smooth, the service was good, and the plane to and from were relatively empty so nearly everyone had their own row! For a 10-12 hour flight, having room to stretch out is everything! Only complaint is the movie selection is a bit limited – there are a decent number of options but I suppose it depends on your taste and preferences. Getting through customs and security in Amman was straight forward and since we purchased Jordan Pass we didn’t have to pay the visa fee.”

“Not easy to get from Cairo to Tel Aviv. Involved 2 flights Cairo to Amman then a long layover and a short flight to Tel Aviv. First flight had a lunch type meal. Seats were comfortable and had more leg room than any other plane on my trans Atlantic flights. Service was professional, attire looked great. To be honest the airline surprised me which is rare these days. Recommended”
