Salgado Filho International Airport Reviews 2017
Salgado Filho International Airport, a Brazilian airport located in Brazil’s fourth-largest metro area serving capital city of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, sometimes goes by Porto Alegre Salgado Filho International Airport. Originally named “São João Federal Airport” after the neighbourhood it is in, IATA code POA was renamed after senator and first Minister of the Brazilian Air Force, Joaquim Pedro Salgado Filho, on October 12, 1951.
POA used to be air club and became an operating base for Varig which needed a new facility to accommodate new landing gear. Later on, Salgado Filho International Airport inaugurated their first passenger terminal, incorporating the old terminal with Varig’s maintenance facilities, and opened a brand new facility, with plans of creating another airport.
